Narrative

History of the Original Quick Property - Allotment 66B 1133 acres (by Neil Quick - 1990)

William Quick paid Kelsall's 100 pounds (or $200) on the 11 September, 1889 for his application to transfer the lease of the property. Rent was 2 pounds (or $4).

Mallee and pine trees covered the area and it was also riddled with rabbits. William applied to cultivate 734 acres on 28 September, 1893, to grow wheat for sale and lucerne and mangles for cattle feed.

On 13 October, 1893, 399 acres were transferred to Thomas Quick. This became allotment 66C (currently 121). William senior purchased allotment 120 on 31 January, 1903. Allotments 120 and 121 make up the original allotment 66B, 1133 acres.

Herbert (Quail) Quick farmed the area after William, growing wheat, barley and oats for horse feed. Clover and rye grass pastures were sown for sheep feed. He also ran pigs and a Southdown sheep stud.

Pine logs cut on the farm were used for out buildings. Neighbours sheep were also shorn and dipped on the property.

Stanley Quick farmed the area as a cereal and grazing enterprise with pigs and cows as a side line.

The property is now owned by Mrs E. A. Quick and farmed by her sons Alan, Neil and Kenneth. A variety of crops are grown on the farm: wheat, barley, rape, field peas, chick peas, fober beans, vetch. Sheep are used to graze legume stubbles. The farm has a 50 sow piggery on it today.
